OUR PASTOR

Rev. Micah Jelinek

Micah is married to Laura and father of Violet, Henry, and Evangeline. Together they enjoy hiking, camping, and scouring old bookshops. Prior to Immanuel, Micah served as a pastor at Oak Pointe Church in Milford, MI and as a librarian and professor at Moody Theological Seminary.

He grew up in the foothills of Pennsylvania and southeast Michigan and has studied at Moody Theological Seminary, Wayne State University, and Covenant Theological Seminary (D.Min. in progress). Most days you can find him hanging out at Honcho in Clarkston. So stop on by, pull up a chair, and he’ll buy you a cup of coffee!

What We Believe

The Christian life is not meant to be lived in isolation. We believe this applies to congregations as well as individuals.

Immanuel is certainly a young church but our beliefs and practices wholeheartedly embrace the historic Christian faith as expressed in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, and as summarized in the Nicene and Apostles’ Creeds.

Additionally, we affirm the five tenets of the Protestant Reformation: Scripture alone, by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, and to God alone be the glory. These core beliefs are helpfully outlined in the Westminster Confession of Faith as well as the Heidelberg Catechism.

The New City Catechism provides a shortened, modern paraphrase of these in a Q&A format and includes readings from historic Christianity, as well as short teaching on video from a number of excellent teachers.

Likewise, the ESV Bible App is an excellent, free online resource to help with daily Scripture reading and learning.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He arose again from the dead;

He ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
